Dr. Matthew Mainella, DMA

Music Director

​

Throughout his varied career, Dr. Matthew Mainella has led professional, college, community, and youth orchestras, wind bands, choirs, and stage productions. Mainella earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Utah, the Master of Music Performance degree from Valdosta State University, and the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Connecticut. He resides in Salt Lake City, where he enjoys camping, hiking, photography, and storm chasing in addition to teaching, writing, and arranging music.

Dr. Perry G. Fine, MD

Faculty Advisor

​

Dr. Fine, who prefers to go by Perry, comes to the role of Faculty Advisor to the Utah Medical Orchestra with 60 years of classical and contemporary music performance and composition experience. Medicine and music have been his competing professional and avocational loves throughout adult life; he currently serves as Professor, Department of Anesthesiology. Perry states that, “The opportunity to focus on music after a very satisfying medical career is an unexpected blessing. I could not count myself more fortunate than to be working with the extraordinary leadership and members of the UMO, graciously and generously supported by the Department of Anesthesiology under the leadership of Dr. Talmage Egan.”
